The painful gap between old structures and new ones
Adapted from Section 8 of The Crossing & The Capture: A Working Paper on AI Transition Dynamics.
The AI transition is not smooth. Between old structures losing their rationale and new ones becoming reliable, there is a valley: job compression before new roles stabilise, identity disruption, institutional confusion, and widening gaps. The valley is a grief process as much as an economic transition. This essay maps what the valley looks like and what navigating it requires.
