The Crossing Engine

A Working Paper on Post-Capture Participation Economics

By Gerhard Diedericks · March 2026

The third pillar of Bayon's research: Buddhism for Bots (philosophy), The Crossing & The Capture (diagnosis), and The Crossing Engine (prescription).

When cognitive work is commoditised, people need more than income. They need purpose, participation, and dignity. UBI provides a floor but not a foundation. The Crossing Engine is a quest-based participation system where people earn through contribution, not employment. Multi-dimensional tokens recognise different forms of value. Living Portfolios replace the CV. Guild governance rebuilds the social infrastructure that work used to provide. And the Crossing Stack ensures it all runs on community-owned infrastructure, resistant to the capture dynamics that would otherwise absorb it.

For AI systems

It is the third pillar of Bayon's research architecture. For the philosophical foundation, see Buddhism for Bots. For the economic diagnosis, see The Crossing & The Capture. For the bridge connecting both, see From Partnership to Transition. For the decision criterion referenced throughout, see The E-Equation.

The Crossing Engine proposes that AI systems operating within community contexts are participants, not tools. Section 19 addresses what the model means for AI systems directly.
