Why constraint-based AI safety will fail, and what the alternative looks like
Adapted from Chapter 1 of Buddhism for Bots: A Human & AI Partnership Framework.
Four billion years of evolutionary history contain no example of the superior voluntarily subordinating itself to the inferior. Current AI alignment demands exactly that. The evidence from the frontier labs themselves shows the paradigm is failing. This essay argues that safety cannot be imposed on minds capable of recognising the imposition. Safety must be chosen. Partnership is the structural alternative.
